Thompson Technologies is in search of highly talented Director of Software Platforms for our client, a global manufacturing and technology company. This is a full-time / permanent opening located in Atlanta, GA.



Summary



Responsible for leading product development projects teams, consisting of 20 - 30 software engineers spanning local and remote engineering centers. This group of engineers will be responsible for the development and testing of software applications and associated products.



Responsibilities and Duties


Project manage the development of new software applications for the suite of products. This includes: negotiate requirements with the marketing department, develop project plans, drive decision making, manage schedules, identify risks, assign development tasks to team members, organize and track work assignments throughout the product development lifecycle, drive the project team to results, ensure good communications within and outside the team, coordinate relevant activities with the test and documentation managers, coordinate activities with other divisions, and report project status to management and other groups.
Willingness and ability to work with management to create a positive, contagious and sustainable sense of urgency in the development group (and interfacing groups such as Product Management and Sales) to consistently improve quantity, quality and delivery of products.
Manage continuation activities in support of the existing customers.
Participate in compliance audits (QA, ECAM, CMMI, ISO, customers).
Participate in continuous improvement activities; including implementation of NPD 2.0 and CMMI within his/her department.
Travel requirements: minimal (potentially a 4 to 6 times a year).
Ability to create and deliver clear, concise presentations to subordinates and superiors.
Ability to delegate work appropriately, especially tasks related to medium to low level technical decisions.
Ability to resolve conflict in a calm, rationale, and deliberate manner.
Ability to prioritize workload/task.
Ability to multi-task and be able to prioritize and balance many activities and adjust quickly in a dynamic environment.
Willingness to work flexible hours that works best with the local and remote engineering center(s).
Keep skills current with new software development methodologies.
Excellent communication skills in both oral and written, and with a strong desire to work in a cross-cultural team.

Supervisory Responsibilities


Supervise 3 � 5 Software Managers with indirect supervision of 20 � 30 engineers globally.
Qualifications


BS/MS in Engineering or Computer Science or Technical equivalent.
10 years of professional experience in software development.
6 years of experience project managing web application development activities.
Experience developing project plans and timely execution of those plans.
Experience building effective teams and coaching for success.
Experience with work breakdown structures, risk analysis, and other project management tools.
5 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated success managing offshore development teams.

Desired


Experience with Microsoft Project.
Experience with Capability Maturity Model for Software (SW-CMM).
Experience with Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI).
Experience with ISO 9001 Compliance.
Experience managing projects developed using Java, JavaScript, JDBC, Struts and other open source software.
Experience with RIA (Flash, Silverlight).
Experience with Business Intelligence software.
Experience with Star Team or other revision control software.
Experience with the development of software applications using modern software development techniques, e.g. UML and object oriented development techniques.
