Text to XML

I have an output file in the following format that I need to transform into XML.

 
RETAIL NAME\XXXXX'S INSURANCE
RETAIL ADD 1\XXXX NW 16TH AVE
RETAIL ADD 2\GAINESVILLE, FL  32601
\NA=nautdec~\
POLICY NBR\NCXXXXXX
NEW\X
NAMED INSURED\X.X.X.X.
STREET ADDRESS\PO BOX XXXX
CITY\OCALA
STATE\FL
ZIPCODE\34474
ZIPCODE #002\3188 

I have found information on transforming fixed length files, but that wouldn't help me here.
Any suggestions

How about parsing the file with some java.io and creating the xml with Dom or maybe JDom?

The simplest thing is just to read it and parse each line and write XML on the fly to another file - for each line type have a method that writes the corresponding XML, being sure to close the elements. In other words, your line

  
POLICY NBR\ncxxxxx
causes output of
<POLICY_NBR>ncxxxxxx</POLICY_NBR>
