How to calculate a load factor

The formula to calculate the number of iterations needed in an Increment is
(No. of developers * Total Increment Length)/Load-factor

Can some one please verify the formula, and explain how to calculate the load-factor.

What process are you referring to?
XP for example used to have a load factor (it's deprecated now), but the formula doesn't sound familiar to me.
