Mr. Amblin,
I am new to Java and am trying to learn good coding practices for maintenance and for efficiency. Does your book address issues common to newbies?
Are you using JDBC to access your database, or something else?
Is there a sample chapter online which we can view?
Best Wishes for a prosperous new year,

I'll let Scott answer your other questions once he appears, but you can download a book excerpt from the publisher's site.
