What is Lean Sigma, and how does it relate to IT?

I just now received an internal company e-mail saying that our IT is going Lean Sigma. It is accompanied by the usual meaningless Power Point slide show using meaningless buzzwords like "Black Belts" and stuff.

What are they on about? Some consultancy firm made a killing yet again?

Lean Six Sigma has been around for a while already. I don't know much about it beyond the general idea of focusing everything on making the lead-times short and customers happy. And if I got that one wrong, it just shows how little I know of Lean Six Sigma
