HF PMP: comparison with Prince2

Hello,

I recently passed the first exam of the Prince2 series, a projectmanagement method very common in Europe.

Since PMP is a requirement in some (bigger) companies, I'm interested to know (in a nutshell) what the mayor differences are between the two.

Both should be very similar. I have passed PMP but i am not aware of the exam contents for prince 2, as both are project management exams. You can visit pmi.org for more information. PMP basically details out a set a processes which must be followed for an succesfull project execution.

I think Prince 2 is only useful in Europe. It is rarely used in Asia or America. Correct me if I am wrong.

I'm located in Asia working for a UK based company. A few years back our company even sent out PMs to have Prince2 trainings in the UK.

But now, even the PMs located in UK are getting PMI training. My guess is that PMP is more and more becoming the industry standard nowadays?

Hope someone would clear out my assumptions if they are incorrect.

I recently looked into the processes of getting certified under both systems, and the PMI approach struck me as significantly more bureaucratic (like, file thousands of hours of PM experience - I wonder who and how is going to check this?).
