Hi to all,
I have two machines, one running Windows XP and the other WIndows 98. I have got really big files on the Win98 system which I need to move over to the XP system. I can't afford LapLink right now. So I'm using my parallel port CD writer (2X write) to move the files over and this is a very painful operation since it takes about 40 minutes to make 1 disc and sometimes the end result is a disc with a corrupt structure, the pain of WIn98.
So do you know any way I could link these computers so that I can transfer the files directly? Cable names/software? Both computers have USB ports and the laptop has got ethernet 10/100 card.
Thanks for your help in advance.

You need two ethernet card one on each PC, a crosss cable with rj45 on each side of the UTP cross cable and you does not need any software to establish the network, use microsoft networking and transfer the files

Thanks Sameer!
I have already bought the card for the big PC since it did not have it, the laptop came with the card. However, when I try to configure it (IP etc) it messes up my broadband Internet access. I guess I need to be more patient and try again...
