Hi,
Anyone here ever made use of vedic mathamatics in programming? Does it
help to solve complex mathamatical algorithms? What your experience say?
I m a software engineer past 4 years but i never used vedic mathamatics in my work.I heard that vedic mathamatics is a great thing to solve complex
mathamatical problems.Does anyone have any experience on this?
Thx

I'll move this to General Computing and see if the propeller heads over there are any help.

Vedic mathamatics is a ancient Indian art of mathamatics discovered and used in india thousands years ago and still it is being used in many Indian institutions. It helps to solve complex mathamatical problem.
For ex.
If today's mathamatics can give a solution to one particular problem in let say 10 steps while using vedic mathamatics it can be solved in less than 4 steps.
As far as I know, vedic mathamatics is widely used in India's prestigeous insitutions,Indian Institute of Technology (Called IIT).

What does anyone think of the Japanese method of teaching : Kumon
I've seen an 11 yr old who has been trained this way solve maths problems rapidly that would defeat any Maths graduate or even post-graduate that I know.
Is vedic maths similar to Kumon ?
The downside of Kumon - there is a lot of learning by rote and is not an enjoyable experience.

when i was in school(primary education), i was very inquisitive to learn vedic maths and indeed learnt simple stuff like multiplication which used to be better than the normal math approach in terms of number of steps. With practice, one could easily adopt the vedic approach and perform multiplications faster. But I somehow got stuck with division at that time . But as a kid it was fun learning vedic math. Theres a lot in it and I knew the basics only that I dont even remember now apparently.
Well I was surprised to hear that vedic math is being used in IITs, why do they use it nowadays with the advent of computers, calculators etc. being all around us??
As a hobby, I would stronly recommend to learn Vedic math. It's fun. Thanx to google, here is a link to get started.

I do not have any idea about Japanese method of teaching : Kumon.
I am very much interested to know whether vedic mathamatics could be
useful to reduce number of lines of coding?

not much good for computers but interesting nonethelesss.
At school we were expected to know the timestable to 12x12 by heart (i.e. rote) after which we used a calculator.
The only shortcut I remember was to use my hands to do the 9x table.
Obviously after about age 14 most of the maths is formulae based (so no numbers).
I think the vedic system is designed so you don't need to manipulate large numbers in memory, splitting the problem into smaller problems with a few numbers held in short term memory (which is more suited to the brain).
I think generally rote learning has fallen out of favour in schools. I mean is the ability to divide by 9 really an important 'life skill'?

Anything that saves in brain/memory mapping is good for computers.
There is still room for improvement in Reduced Instruction Set Computer Architectures.

Try this.
I tried to search for Kumon on google but could not get any page which could explain it clearly.

Kumon
I think this is the level of information most parents would seek. That and the inexplicable results seen in other children. A child mediocre or bad in math becomes above average. PArents have a role too,an almost dictatorial role.
