Hi !

I was myself thinking of posting this message.

I've been using GoZilla and Internet Download Manager (IDM). IDM is great. I have downloaded up to 150 MB with this, at a transfer rate of around 4 KB/sec. You can still get a trial version of IDM, but it will only work for 30 days. It won't work after that, even if you re-install...

I am looking for some good download manager, which is free ofcourse Any suggestions...

Danish

I can't find a good one that doesn't come packed with Adware and Spyware. The only one I use is the one built into Firefox. No, it doesn't try and find multiple sources for faster downloading and all that crap. But it can continue a download that got cancelled for some reason or another.

GetRight kept on pushing that dodgy Gator thingee ("we will hold your passwords for you, and show you good deals in big flashy green popups, when ever we like"). I always explicitly selected 'Do not install Gator' and after a couple of months, no surprise, Gator started throwing popups, pure adware magic!

I have firefox 0.8 , it can pause a download but you close the browser or disconnected from the internet or the download will be lost.
is there something I have missed in firefox ??

if you run adaware to kill Gator most or all applications that use Gator will no longer work or silently reinstall Gator without asking.

If you want to have a spyware free (most if not all adware IS spyware btw) download manager, you pretty much have to write your own.

I've used getright for years without problems. It does include some spyware but I've used spybot to remove it without problems in the past. Getright is not spyware, but it does have spyware in it. And my past experience has been removing it does not affect it. I've found it's also faster than most other download managers. I still use Gozilla from time to time as well. I like them both.

I use GetRight in conjunction with FlashGot plugin for FireFox. I was under the impression that recent versions of GetRight are spyware free. Certainly AdAware and Spyware S&D don't find anything on my system.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
