I am confused in KBPS. Is it Kilo Bits Per second or Kilo Bytes per second. I goggled this and some one said that KBps is Kilo Bytes per second, and Kbps is Kilo Bits per second. Is the case senstivity so important and does it mean what some one utters kpbs?

Thanks in advace for the right explanation.

In a particular context, you usually know which is meant. But whenever there's a discussion of a new technology, there is always confusion, because people who should know better still get this wrong! But yes, the case matters.

Once upon a time, the two were (fairly often) differentiated by letter case: KBps referred to bytes, kbps referred to bits. But, that seemed to go away several years ago.

Thanks for the answers. You said they are gone away, now what is being used to prononce bit and bytes, in other words, if now one says kpbs what does it mean now?

I agree, they might be some obviuos differentiation when talking in perticular context. Like whenever we talk of downloading speed/internet speed, kbps means kilo bits unless otherwise specified. I am rite? Can you please some other obvious contexts for exmaple sake.
