I creating my own web forum and I have a question about cookies.
What are the typical data that should be stored in web forum's cookies ??
What does JR use ?

whatever you like. probably the user name for sure so you can personalize a greeting. that is the only thing i have used cookies for.

You need to make a way to relate data relate to the user. This forums is not a way to go. Look at it and you will see why. Newer versions have fixed it.

Basically you need to use encrytption and compare that encrypted value to the value you have stored in the db.

What does this value should be ? password ? user name ?
Another point, I have also to save the current time in order to highlight fourms that have been updated, right ?
Design question :
If the user want to post a new message, How can I make sure that he has logged in ?
Using'Sessions' concept ?
Does cookies has a role here ?
