Hi..
well i saw posts here and also observed that it is a very active board..and ppl are doing good here...in order to help others...
I am a student of masters (CS) and wish to do phd.and i was planning to start research work for it...so i could just take one topic or two and write my masters thesis on it and also will continue it further as advance research in phd.
So can any one help me in this??
am i planned right?
what can be the topic area?? like A.I., Software engineering topics or bioinformatics etc...

also is any javaranch similar discussion forum availabale for discusion upon computer science research ??

I would suggest 'Security' as a hot topic for research. It has lot of scope, applicability in the near and long term(like web security, user identity management in a enterprise level etc).

Thanks Kishore..ur idea is not bad.. security is one of the hot topic nowadays...and i may like to select it but after some basic research in order to warm up myself for this area...

any one have any other comment on the topic?

IMO,security is important but doing a research in this area is not so easy as everybody suggesting.Doing research in security means what? Cryptography or network security or IP Security or Web security or Firewall? The aobve mentioned areas are very diverse.There is difference between cryptographer,security engineer and network engineer.

yes shastri is rite in his words..
i m not very good at maths and for security field i may need it badly..and i cant go back to learn it...any other ideas??

I thought math is part and parcel of any Computer Science related research. Every basic data structure involves some inherent level of Math.

With respect to Security you need a knack for bit-wise operations if you want to create more robust encryption algorithms etc.
