We do copy various data by ctrl+c for pasting elsewhere. This copied data is stored in clipboard and is accessible from the net by a combination of JavaScript and ASP.

Just try this:
1) Copy any text by ctrl + c
2) Click the Link: http://www.friendlycanadian.com/applications/clipboard.htm
3) You will see the text you copied on the Screen which was accessed by this web page.

Do not keep sensitive data (like passwords, credit card numbers, PIN etc.) in the clipboard while surfing the web. It is extremely easy to extract the text stored in the clipboard to steal your sensitive information.

I using IE is full has always been a risk. Must be mad to use IE to purchase anything on the net; that is what I will be thinking while I drink my own pee.

So..... Does anyone know of a quick & easy way to clear the clipboard (other than just copying something else) ?

Seems like there should be a ctrl + (something) to do it, but haven't had any luck finding it with Google.

Not only that, but what are the exact settings that we should use in IE to avoid this?

I ask for the benefit of others; I use Firefox but I tested anyway with IE and the web page did capture my clipboard, but not when using Firefox.

Too bad for me; I posted my Swiss account number with the pass code to get to it with my $5M US in it. Shoot!

If you have security set to medium for the internet (which I think is the default), click on custom level:

Scroll down towards the bottom, to where you will find a "Scripting" heading, with an "Allow paste operations via script" which will be set to "Enable". Disable it.

I am not sure where this would be considered a good thing to have available at all, let alone over the internet.

Interestingly enough, having made that change, the site in question then tells me that it is unable to get anything from my clipboard, and that it only works in Internet Explorer and Netscape. I don't see such a message when I try via Opera.

Likewise, it does not appear to be able to capture the clipboard when using Opera.

ROFL.

Hi,

Here are the steps.

1. Go to internet options->security
2. Press custom level
3. In the security settings, select disable under
Allow paste operations via script.

Now the contents of your clipboard are safe.

Bye,
Viki.
