I'm a 43yr. old Java newbie enrolled as a Computer Science major at a mid-sized university. Right now, Java is our beginning language, but we'll be moving to C++ soon. My question is: what language is most predominant in the CS field. I've heard different opinions and welcome more. Thanks in advance,

Brian Lester

Right now Java is definitive the hottest one. Another alternative is C# (.NET)

Getting exposure to multiple languages is a very good thing to do. Please don't limit yourself to what might currently be popular.
