Anyone know anything about this? I've written a txt file to PDF converter program and I'm trying to insert an image in the PDF as a background. In order to insert this JPEG the PDF documentation I have mentions DCT encoding/decoding. Does anyone know anything about DCT encoding and (HUGE plus) writing PDF documents from code? I've had responses elsewhere and I want to make this clear right off: I am writing a program that generates PDFs purely from scratch (no APIs, third party subroutines, etc..,). Also does anyone know a quick way to underline text when using BT and ET to write text to a PDF? If no one seems to know anything about the above can you refer me to somewhere whereby I can post similar questions. Thanks.

No APIs? Ouch! Do you like pain?

A starting point to learn about DCT would be Wikipedia. Does that mean you're also creating JPEGs from scratch, without using any API? Or is the DCT related to inserting JPEGs into a PDF? I've only ever created PDFs using some API or other, so the details elude me.

I once implemented a very basic PDF generation library (without using any APIs) but I never got around to embedding images. I do remember, however, that the only useful resource was the 400-page PDF specification...

Lasse,
Which doc are you referring to? Do you happen to have a link to it? The document I'm referring to is loaded with technical jargon that I really can't stand reading and the examples are very basic examples. To answer the question regarding JPEGS from the previous post, I'm not creating a JPEG from scratch merely trying to read the image in and "attempting" to encode it to show in the PDF. Also the image (I trying to put in) I'm hoping to set as a background behind the page content (I'm going to lighten the colors of the image before attempting to insert so text shows over it easily. If anyone knows any additional info on how to insert images and how to underline text I'd appreciate any response(s). Right now I have the PDF accepting different fonts and allowing bolding and italics but underlining is key to what I need to do and image backgrounds are the secondary necessity. Thanks so much again.
