Not sure this is the right area for this post.

I need some assistance on report output to the user. I am useing Websphere as my development environment. My idea is to have a form template on the server with fields bound to data fields. The user requests a report, the form template is filled in with desired record data and then presented to user as pdf file.

Is this possible and if so how can I make it happen?

The first part sounds like jsp/servlet stuff. I'm not sure about the pdf part.

Hi Steve,

I think you could implement this requirement using Servlets and iText which is a open source PDF library.

Two popular libraries to create reports are JasperReports and JFreeReport. The former seems to attract more attention, and can create PDFs (using iText internally).
