Hi - I've googled & searched this forum. I see this problem, but I see no solution that I haven't tried, other than purchase a new drive. Here's my problem - maybe you've had similar problem?

I was in the middle of doing a backup a few days ago. I burned 3 dvds successfully, & in the middle of the 4th one it gave an error, & since then it won't recognize a blank cd, dvd, or a cd w/ data. If I put in a dvd w/ data, it tries "forever" to read the dang thing, & just hangs.

I've opened up the box, cleaned it (eww!), tried uninstalling & reinstalling the device (no new drivers available). I've even banged on the side of the computer. Nothing.

Any ideas what's happened?

Hey, have you tried your dvd drive in a different OS? If you are using windows you can try a live linux and see if that works.

Or alternatively, try to see if you can boot from your dvd drive, using a bootable disc, such as a windows install cd.

This will help isolate the problem and help find the solution
