My friend purchased "Windows XP Professional SP2" CD and he installed it on his computer and registered the CD online at Microsoft website. For my personal use I have taken his CD and installed it on my computer but could not register it online since it is already registered online by my friend. Daily in my computer system tray I am being prompted to register my Windows online and it is saying that so many no. of days are left for activation. Now Windows is saying that 2 days left for activation of Windows.

My question is, what will happen if I dont register online my copy of Windows even after there are no days left for activation? Please clarify.

It is not about whether you register online or not... it is about using the software without paying its price. If you love windows you better pay for it. [ ]

I think it would not allow you to log on to your computer after the trial time expires.

According to this:

If you don't complete the product activation process after 30 days, Windows XP will still boot, but you'll be unable to launch Windows until you call the Microsoft Clearinghouse and enter the code.
