Hi guys,
I am finally a SCJP.
Got a score of 85%
Study time - 1.5 mths
Books Referred : Khalid(only book reqd) Jaworski
No prior Java programming experience.
I won't say it is a must as being new u have less chance of
getting confused (esp when u know C/C++/VB - which is what happened with me)
I lost marks in Thread, Operators & Assignments, Declaration(!!odd isn't it)
I think problem was I had 22 minutes left. During my recheck I
made some last minute changes(confusion, tensions whatever!!)
Type of questions -
Threads no real codes but the wordings of ' when wait & notify '
make thread run or stop were really confusing
like will be called, can be called, will be called may run
1st thread will surely run, 2nd may run etc...
Another question on thread was 3 possible reasons
when a thread CANNOT stop or something like that
(6 possible - wait, yield, notify,notifyall, start
and one more??)
Had 5 fill in (type in questions) -- 5 can u believe it!???
10-12 Questions with codes
Many had errors involving
:static being called from non-static etc...
Look for those type of errors...
answers were very close here like
1> will not compile
2> compile give error at line 6,
3> will give error at 7 etc
Remember to see every possible answer as
I made mistakes like read the code , was sure there is error
and marked 1> will not compile etc..
when there are specific alternatives of where error can occur
Garbage collection
when error occurs - just after line 4, just after line 5
never in this method etc..
Operators & assignment were odd
They had wrapper class assigned to values [float & double]
& had 6 ans with == comparisons, equals comparison
Choose 3
I was not sure of this and felt the choices were not correct
that there only 1 right answer but they expected 3!!??
Of course I may be wrong...will have to try & work on this...WHEN
who knows?
File I/O - simple 4,5 question
U have to find valid Parameters to the DataOutputStream
etc...
Overall the exam is not difficult
1> Go through Marcus green exam thoroughly.
Try to understand all the explanations he has given.
2> Code a bit to be confident
3> Don't confuse urself with too much of thread & IO
Read any 1 book thorough. reading from too many books just causes more tension & confusion
try code from that book making changes (all possible modifiers etc..)
Now time to relax & watch movies (just brought
4 Hindi movies!!)
Happy weekend
