Long preparation and intense hours culminated in my obtaining the
scjp certification at 11.35am 19/10. secured 69%. i shall proceed with
a detailed explanation of exam pattern (and other details).
exam details:
had less than 9 question on theory(kinds of methods required). 1 q on
garbage collection. 6 on IO. about 88% of questions on fundamental concepts
such as overloading , overriding, declarations and access control.
the new pattern definitely stresses more on code analysis, with most of
the questions being 15-18 lines code and 3 questions based
on codelengths of 35-40 lines. no question s on gridbaglayout, sockets
or mediatracker. 3 questions on fill in the blanks. most of the question
present 5-6 options. a lot of questions specify the number of corret
answers to select (select TWO correct answers).
----Short answer questions: very fundamental, with no detailed knowledge
required of packages.
----IO: 2 theory questions(constructors given, select TWO options on utput)
4 questions on codeanalysis(not very long).
by far, khalid is the best text for IO. (in fact, khalid is the
best for the new pattern )
difficulty level: average
----Layoutmanagers: about 2 questions. one short answer, 1 code analysis.
difficulty level: easy
----fill in the blanks: mainly asking for value assigned to a string variable
on program execution.
difficulty level: twisted
----Garbage collection: easy. questions on GC of string literal not asked
----fundamental concepts: some of these require careful analysis of code.
atleast 4 questions on parameter passing(of primitives and objects)
exam history:
managed to answer the uqestions in 1hr 15 mins, with
14 questions marked and 3 unanswered. finally managed to complete
exam wih 7 seconds to spare. enough time to execute various neck
movements to prepare muscle strands for the final twist.

special thanks go out to hema janani for providing required

no thanks to the mumbai municipal corporation for cutting off
the water suppy at the day of the exam, forcing me to set a new

sufficient water for the rest of your lives.
