Hi,
I have been a silent observer on this forum for a month or more. I passed my
SCJP today with a mark of 76% percent (second try). I though I would write with some tips for first and second timers.
1. I highly recommend JQPlus. It is a program that you can buy of the Internet for $25USD. The interface is similar to the exam interface and it introduces one to a lot of similar questions. Do not rely on the similar questions showing up, but learn from them. The program overall is a good learning tool that strengthen a lot of areas I though I new. They guarantee that you will pass.
2. The exam is not as tough as one might think, but do not go in expecting this as it breeds a false sense of security.
3. Try to be as relaxed as possible. I recommend no
coffee before the exam (try some chamomile tea instead). I also found listening to Baroque music helped to relax me prior to the exam.
4. Read each question VERY carefully. I can not stress this enough. There are no crazy surprises but you must understand the question.
5. If you fail the first time do not be too upset as a lot of people fail. Get back at it as soon as possible and work on your week areas.
6. Books: I used Ivor Hortons Beginning
Java, the Cram Exam book, the Sun Certification book, and Marcus Greens tutorial.
7. Do lots of practice exams, at least 30. I recommend Marcus Greens and the aforementioned JQPlus.
Keep tyring because when you pass it feels great!!!
That is about it and thanks for everyones help.
