I have just cleared SCJP a few hours back. I got 81%, not too bad. I am happy to have cleared it, so off to the next level now.

Thanks everybody on this forum to have put up such a good site.
Tips for those who prepare for the test.
About the exam:
I didn't score much on Threads, the questions were very tricky in that. I/O was pretty straight forward, just concentrate on whtever they asked in the objectives. Others were not that tough, but they were tricky. There were questions on Gridbag layouts. Nothing on conversions, I mean numeric & ! etc. I was prepared for that also, conversion from hex/oct to binary.
Of course lots of codes, I think around 30+ questions. That's it, so good luck, give yourself atleast 1 month for preparing just in point of view of the exam.

1. Get a good book, I got Khalid's Programmer's Guide to Java certifiaction, if you could handle sample questions in it, you are ready to take the exam.
2. Read JLS, do lots of sample codes, try the limits of the language, I mean what's possible & what not.
3. Do lots of Mock Exams, I did JXam, MindQ, Marcus, +Khalid.
All these links I got from maha's site, thanks to her.
I find Khalid's exam is quite near to the real one, ofcourse real one is not all that tough as Khalid's.
That's it thanks a lot friends!

Hello Friends
About my preparations,
I had C, programming experience(which was quite rusted skills, as I took a break from work for 2-3 yrs for the family).I was never comfortable with the title of "home-maker" anyway, I knew I had to come back. Actually my husband was the one who inspired me to go back to work & for that he suggested this course. I was a little skeptical about all these, & whether I could do it after a long break.I had used Java (for animation ) & Javascripts while I was sitting at home for playing with making web pages. But as I started on my own I had no OO strong basics.
I started this process in mid Oct. with a SL-275 course conducted by Sun. Which is an ok course which covers the fundamentals.
After that I started reading books, RHE,(from a friend) Java Language specs by Gosling,(I got from library). Then I found out that Sun has changed the exam format & it's more on codes now. That's when I found out about this site & started looking for tips & posting my doubts.
Then 2 weeks back I bought Khalid's book,I had a tough time getting it, where I live, it's difficult to get these technical books. Thanks to Amazon.com, I got it by international courier, ofcourse I had to spend extra money on it. But it was worth it, I liked Khalid's book the best, & his sample exams.
Then ofcourse as somebody in the forum suggested - work with each objective for a day.I mean do coding on what they have asked in the objective, I found it easier than getting things clearer than reading a book. Then take the mock exams. After taking each exam make a note as maha suggested, to pin point where are you getting low scores etc. After that read the book, again, that's it.
I hope I didn't bore you people with my long story.
Thanks
Sudha
