Hi, Folks,
Today I passed SCJP with 84% (I was targeted for >90%, so it was not so good but ok). First I would like to thank everyone here in Javaranch. I have been watching this for a while and you guys are wonderful in managing this site. My thanks to Maha for the mockup exam site. Thank you all very much.
Now, here are the tips and facts about the exam
1. lots of overloading and overriding (why ask questions on the same subject again and again? I do not know).
2. No 30 line codes. Only short ones with 7-10 lines.
3. All file I/O stuff are about constructors
4. Thread questions are hard.
5. The testing GUI is absolutely BAD! If a question has a lot of choices, clicking the "next" button will go to the button of the question, but, if the question is short, the "next" button leads you to the next question. Be careful.
After I wrote the above it does not seem to be too diffrent than
what other people wrote, so, here is my suggestion:
1. do not overstudy and go into very tough things. The exam still tests the basics. It is on the same level of difficulty as Marcus Green.
2. K.Mughal's book is too hard, I am not sure whether you need to use it at all, I have gone through it, it is a great book but it covers too much details not needed for the test.
3. Do a lot of mockups. I also recommend a software called JQPlus (I am not related to the company that makes the software!). It is $18 in the US and it is pretty good (although a little bit too hard).
Anyway, good luck folks!
