Two hours ago I was in one of the testing centers where you don't get to see the result on your monitor, you have to walk out to the front desk to get your printout to see the result.
I was totally shocked to see the result compared to my Mock Test results. I missed one question on Threads.
My study/mock test pattern:
Read RHE answering all the questions in the chapters.
RHE Test 88%.
Marcus Green #3 ~60% Yikes! (I started with exam 3 since it has the least code in the questions and I wanted to save the others for later)
Jxam 76%
(around this time I remember visiting JavaRanch a lot and when reading the tips & tricks I had a hard time getting the point of them so figured I should buckle down for some more studying)
Read Mughal & Rasmussen (I spent a lot of time trying out the code and code concepts; the compiler is your fried) answering all the questions in the chapters.
While reading Mughal I visited JavaRanch a lot. Tried to stay in the cert study threads but also spent a lot of time reading cert results; thanks everyone for sharing their experiences, especially after the new test came out in October.
JQPlus Test 1 73%
JQPlus Test 2 78%
JQPlus Test 3 86%
Marcus Green #1 83%
JQPlus Random Test 83%
JQPlus All the Thread Questions (some I'd gotten before)
Marcus Green #2 80%
Mughal sample test in book 80%
Quick Read of Bill Brogden's Exam Cram.
Exam Cram (Chapter Qs, not the exam in the back) 84%
Time for the real thing as I was getting burned out with studying.
I agree with others before me that the exam is straight forward.
The only things I felt (before the exam) I needed to study beyond what I got out of reading RHE and Mughal (including compiling anything I had a question about or hadn't used before) were GridBagLayout and IO.
My GridbagLayout questions (1 or 2) were conceptual.
For IO I spent extra time studying the inheritance hierarchy, constructors, and methods. My IO questions were on File methods and Constructor chaining.
Thanks to everyone at JavaRanch, Marcus Green, authors of the books I mentioned!
Good luck to everyone on their way to take the exam!
