Passed the SCJP2 exam today with 52 out of 59 after a hefty 6 months of preparation so, needless to say, I'm pretty pleased with myself...
The exam focussed on the usual big areas: Threads, java.io, collections, awt. I got 100% on io, which I'm really pleased with seeing as, two days ago, I knew NOTHING! Threads: 71%, scored onyl 50% on awt and java.util. Fortunately, I got about 5 or 6 other 100%s and a few splatterings of 80% (ish). Alot of subtle questions to do with over-riding, lots of code examples - a fair few that wouldn't compile (i.e. due to private top-level classes, calls to non-static methods from main() etc.), that's about all I can remember. Oh, and just one question on GridBagLayout which I probably got wrong anyway!
As I said, I spent 6 months preparing (only about 1 or 2 nights a week though mostly, escalating to pretty much every day for the last 2 or 3 weeks!). I used the Simon Heller Sybex certification study guide mostly, although the version I had related to the previous version of the exam so I topped up with the new Java 2 Exam Notes (Simon Heller, Sybex) - lots of errors in this book though! I also used the JQPlus and Marcus Green exams, cited by others here. These were helpful, althogh I have to say the questions in the actual exam are worded alot more clearly and, for this reason, seem simpler. Finally, I also found this site 3 weeks ago and it's been a great help so - thanks a million!!!

CONGRATS Steve!!!
great score.
u have mentioned about code not compiling due to calls to non-static methods from main().r u saying that the call was made without using the object of the class?
kindly explain.
rajashree.

Rajashree,
I mean that there were a few examples like this:
public class AClass {
public static void main(String[] args) {
amethod();

}
public void amethod() {
// do stuff

}
}
...so this wouldn't even compile. The questions always appeared to be testing something else, like collections, so it wasn't as obvious as this example... just something else to watch out for!!!
