Hi,
Today I have passed SCJP WITH 77%.I am very happy with the result. If i would have prepared for one more month i would have scored more.I was preparing since three months spending 3 hours a day.I have studied RHE and complete reference.these are very good books. And i did 20 to 25 mock exams.I have noted each wrong answer and tried to understand the concepts.I learnt a lot from mock exams.I got 100% in AWT,Lang,UTIL and GC.I got 80% in I/O and i got least in threads i.e 57%.I think i should have written more programs in Threads using synchronization.I got one question in GridbagLayout and i was correct.
My suggestions to people who are appearing the exam
1)Read one certification guide eg:-RHE.Keep one Core Java book for reference eg:-complete reference. Then start writing mock exams.write as many mocks as possible.Note down the wrong answers and try to undertand the concept behind the question.Make it a point that you should learn atleast one new concept from each mock exam.Once you finish 10 mocks. Try to repeat mocks again and see your score.you should get more.If you don't get more then you need more reading.
2)Try to concentrate more on I/O, Remember all the thread class constructors.Try to remember the inheritence heirarchy in I/O.I have got 5 questions in I/O.
3)Write as many programs in threads using synchronization.I got 7 questions in threads.
4)In awt i got 5 to 6 questions and i got 100%.Try to write small programs in awt and see what is the behaviour of each layout when you add components to it.
5)Try to concentrate on Lang. i got 4 questions in Lang.and i had doubt whether to specify "" in the answer or not.if you get a question on string and you are asked to write the result.you include "" in the resulting string.Because i got all correct in strings.
6)For Gc there is a posting in javaranch, the concept is explained very clearly.
7)Try to understand the concept of pass by value and pass by reference.i got
I would like to sincerely thank Maha Anna for her excellent work. And i really want to thank my friend who was giving me moral support.I would also like to thank Mapraputa Is, Jane Griscti, Thomas Paul, shailesh sonavadekar who are working day and night to help people in succeeding the exam.I would also like to thank Velu for his notes.I also like to thank Marcus Green for his excellent mock exams.
I used to get immediate response for my questions in javaranch. This is a wonderful site who are appearing for SCJP.
I am happy to say that i am "SUN CERTIFIED".
Thanks everyone,
bye
Rohan

CONGRATULATIONS Rohan!!!
Thanks for ur valuable TIPS.
well u have pointed out to concentrate more on I/O and THREADS.
i want to know if the methods(given in details in Complete Reference)of various STREAMS/READER/WRITER classes important from JCP point of view?Should one mug up all of these methods?
Or just knowing the various I/O constructors is enough?
Also are the methods of various interfaces and classes of java.util package important?
rajashree.

Hi Rajashree,
You need to mug up only I/O constuctors not methods.and the heirarchy of these classes is very important. There is no need to mug up methos.
Regarding UTIL,You try to write down atlest 4 or 5 points on basic interfaces Set,Map,List, Collection, sortedList, SortedMap.And if possible also try to some points on Hashmap, Hashset,ArrayList,Treemap,Treeset etc.
There is no need to mug up methods in UTIL.you will be asked on basic concepts in UTIL.
Good Luck !!!
bye
Rohan
