I just passed the java programmer exam by the skin of my chin-e-chin-chin. I have only been doing Java for 3.5 months, but studied and wrote enough code in that period to equal to a year.
Now for the exam:
I am not sure how these questions get pulled out of a database, but my were heavily weighted on threads and picking values like what is x and y equal to after said loop. The picking a value can get very tricky with a lot of ++x and y-- and so forth.
I thought the heavy weighting on these areas was cheap - when I say weighting I mean 7-10 q's on threads and 7-10 on what is value of x and y. So if your weak on threads or not done a lot of complex coding on determining values mixed with multiple if loops, for, break and so on then start writing confusing code to get famaliar with it. As for threads, I never wrote any code on threads. It was all book study - so write code on threads, using multiple starts on the same object, and others, and the value of x after run and so forth. I can't give details do to Sun disclosure but there were some tricky q's on threads.
As for other preparation - Brodgen, Maha, Green, Heller, Jxam resources are very helpful. But be careful, these practice exams do not even match the difficulty level of the real thing.
I was 10 q's into the test, and I said to my self - "Damn, this is hard, and I don'think I'm gonna pass." Well, I passed but by a margin of three q's.
Prepare for the unexpected.
Good luck to all prospective test takers.
