I cleared SCJP with 98% today after 2 weeks of intense preparations. I have been a keen follower of JavaRanch but i have never actively participated because of my Professional commitments and limited internet access.
I owe it to Java ranch, Marcus Green , and maha Anna , who with her Discussions collected in the website, made studying for JCP interesting and less complicated
Thanks
Revathi

Hi all
These are the tips i would like to suggest for SJCP aspirants:
1. Test Every Concept
2. Take as many mock exams as possible - i would rate www.jtips.com (actual link given in the Maha's site), applied reasoning, pgjc engine as the best mock exam tools among available.
3. READ THE QUESTION PROPERLY. I almost got one question wrong by reading 'Grid Bag Layout' as Grid layout.I missed 'Bag'. While reviewing i found out.
4. The time is MORE than suffucicent. I finished in 45 miniutes and reviewed the Questions fully TWICE and then again I reviwed randomly again. I still got one question wrong. I thought i answered all correctly. READ, READ and READ the Question and THe OPTIONS
5. Constructors are important in IO
6. Many question on inheritance concepts (more than 10)
7. Actually one question was meant to test Exception Handling. But i found that the main method was calling a non-static method without instantiating the object. BEWARE of this.

I prepared for a month before 8 months and could not take the Exam due to my sudden change of Job.. Then i started again 2 weeks back. Still i could not devote full day because of my current project. But, Thank god, i could get through it.
Hope the above tips will help SJCP aspirants
Thanks a lot
Revathi

REVATHI:
EXCELLENT!
I AM PREPARING TO TAKE SCJP AND JUST WONDERING HOW MUCH TIME I NEED TO GET THIS DONE. WITH C++ AND SOME OTHER 0-0 SKILLS, I COMPLETED A SUN ONLINE COURSE IN ONE MONTH AND AM NOW STARTING DOING SOME PRACTICE EXAMS AND RESULTS: VERY DISCOURAGING! I CANNOT LIVE WITH SO MANY MISTAKES. DO YOU HAVE SOME EXPERIENCES TO SHARE WITH REAGARDING...
THANKS!
JOSEPH

Hi Joseph,

I feel reading RHE book and doing some real time programming in Java should help you.The main emphasis is on Inheritance concept - I've learnt c++ but never done any real time programming .
I also think, doing mock exams again and again and working on the questions where we went wrong - should help.
All the best
Regards
Revathi
