Just soliciting some advice from all of you who have also passed the SCJP and gone on.
I was looking for some discussion of the two alternatives available to continue with Java certification:
The Sun developer exam (might consider the web developer track but need to look at it some more) or the JCert track and, within that, either the IBM or the Oracle track. Has anyone taken the JCert route? Is the difference just a matter of which IDE they test you on?
Any input would be great,
Thanks
Dave

Anyone here take the 1st CIW certification? Might take that one as a change of pace.
Is the programming test close to the Sun one (same principles)?

Hi Dave,
I'm working on the Developer assignment. Haven't checked out the JCert or Web Component track. I like the idea of the Developer 'cause you have to write an application; so passing proves you understand how to apply the language.
Not sure if one track is better than another. I think alot has to do with where you eventually want to end up. May help to check the job market to see what employers are looking for: Oracle, DB2, Components or straight development.

Thanks Jane for your followup. I'm leaning toward the CIW cert for the moment. Just to add some diversity to my resume, and because the subject does interest me and I think it would be a good skill to have. After that probably the developer or web component will be next.
thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
I have completed the Oracle Jcert track and found it to be quite useful. The only problem with the Oracle Jcert track is you donot get lot of support from Oracle. Most businesses use IBM products (atleast this is the case in India!).If you are working on Oracle Java products then it makes sense to go for the Oracle Jcert track.Otherwise, stick to IBM track.
I am not on how useful will CIW certification be?I would suggest you go for vendor certification tracks from IBM, Sun or Oracle instead.
Hope this helps,
Sandeep

I also agree with you Ashik that SCWCD's objectives seem very interesting. The actual reason is, with no working exposure to IT, especially java, I find SCJD2 a Himalayan task .
Can anyone recommend some of the books covering all these objectives ?
