I passed the SCJP exam today with 83%. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here who offered a link or an explanation when I needed it. I don't think I could have pulled it off without the help of the folks on JavaRanch.com. I actually used three books to study for certification. The main book was The Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide: Programmer's and Developers Exams second edition by Roberts et al. For topics that I needed a simple explanation for I used the Sam's Teach Yourself Java 2 in 21 days and the Java 2: How to Program by Deitel and Deitel. I beilieve that if you can pass the tests on the CD that comes with the study guide that I mentioned you will be OK. As far as the makeup of the test, I found that there were a lot of questions about threads and I/O. There were about 10 on threads and 5 on I/O. There was only one question on Collections and one on bit shifting. Overall it was a well-rounded assortment of all of the objectives. I am just glad that it is over. I am more than happy with my grade! Good luck to any of you about to take the test! Brian
