Hi Friends,
Its giving me a great pleasure in telling you that me too now wears the SCJP2 Hat.
The journey has been tough but a worthy experience. I came from the Mainframe background to the world of OOPS. The beginning was definitely tough but the available resources add smoothness to the tough game.
It took me few months to get Java fundamentals cleared. Wrote too much code as suggested by experrience people. Patrick naughton and tutorial at sun were really a good help. Then observing various conversations on sites like this boosted my morale. But still i was not conversant to guide others.
One of my colleagues gave me a breakthrough by suggesting a great yet simple approach. Writing code was getting boredom for me. Why not use java for my daily use? Why not write code for me? I wrote few utilities for me like calendar/scheduler.
Then i got hold of khalid mughal book. It was really worth it.
Last two weeks i mostly gave mock exams:
1.) jtips.net
2.) jchq.net
But still i lacked confidence and needed more practice. I prepared for threads, io and inner classes (as told by people on this site to focus on) from other books as well like robert heller, exam cram. And finally i gave the practice and final exams from j@whiz test engine. In these last 15 days my score started with 72% on jtips.net exam and then 88% in the final exam of j@whiz. And on the dday i got 92% and am really satisfied with the result when i look back to my cobol coding days.
I must thank all of the creators of these resources like moderators and participators of javaranch, marcus green, jtips team and jwhiz team, who help me reaching this stage.
Although i am scjp with 92% now, but once again journey has become tough for me due to IT slowdown. And i believe i need another breakthrough.
I would request experience people to guide me further. When i started, java looked very promising.
I have good command on java and can take on similar and related tech's with confidence.
I will be even more satisfied if i could help others getting certification. I will welcome any query related to scjp2.
Before stopping, an Advice : "Write Lot of code, Try writing it for urself"!
Once again thanks and my best wishes to all
jacob
