Hello, All. I thought, I would post my accomplishment on clearing the exam. Although, I took the exam a while ago I thought I would let everyone know that I passed. This is a great site for helping with tough questions and to clear up any misunderstandings regarding certain topics. Also, the Java ranchers really help out when they're called upon to do so. This site also helps to keep you focused, especially when your studying for the exam. Everytime I would read about someone passing the exam, it would give me joy that someone else had met their objectives and succeeded. Coming from an AS/400 RPG environment, I will say without a doubt that it was one of the toughest challenges that I've encountered in a long time because the languages are so different, however, it all worked out and I feel great! To study for the exam I used Khalid Mughal & Rolf Rasmussen book including Marcus Green's mock exam, Elizabeth Lester's I/O notes and JQPlus. Believe it or not I also included Ch. 17 Handling Data Through Java Stream of "Teach yourself Java in 21 days" to help me get a handle on that concept including a lot of coding. Hello, Fei. Yes, we're looking into ways to use it, however, it's a slow and cautious process, but, it will happen. As bad as I want to use it, you have to be a little patient sometimes and that's something I have to work on. thanks, Donald ------------------ Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform
Thanks, Fei, Muhammad, Jim, Paul, Valentin for your words of kindness. I can say without a doubt it feels good to be certified and I think it will make a difference in the work place. But, just passing the exam is the first step. I have a lot of programming to do in Java and hopefully that will allow me to get extremely comfortable with the language. Going, forward I will be studying JSP and servlets. I purchased Core Servlets and Java Server Pages by Marty Hall. So far it seems like a great book. For the past six months I've been drilling down for the test and with a family it very tough to do much else. However, now I can pursue some of the readings that I've put off. Thanks,

Hi Donald, You purchased Core Servlets and Java Server Pages ? You dont feel Core Servlets and Java Server Pages is outdated? I think the book is great was going to buy it but for SCWCD which the objective is server 2.3 and jsp 1.2.
Hello, Fei. Yes, you may be right about that, however, I'm just starting out with servlets and for sure JSP and I thought the book was basic enough for me get a good understanding of the topic, plus it was pretty cheap through book pool. After I'm finish with this book I'll purchase a more advanced and current book. Thanks, ------------------ Donald Nunn Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform
Hi Donal, congrats man! I couldn't find out ur score ....what are you planning now....to wrok somewhile and then appear SCWCD/SCJD? ------------------ Muhammad Ashikuzzaman (Fahim) Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform --When you learn something, learn it by heart!
Hello, Ashik. How are you? Thanks, for the congrats. Well right now I'm looking into JSP and servlets and to also get more practical experience coding Java. Last night I installed Tomcat Apache server and I'm working with that as well. I don't think I'll be gearing up for any other certifications anytime soon. Maybe after about six months I may look into the developers certificaton. I don't know If you work with servlets and/or JSP, but could you recommend any good servlet/JSP books? You may start with "CORE SERVLETS AND JSP" and should check My Choice of Cooks for further details.... ------------------ Muhammad Ashikuzzaman (Fahim) Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform --When you learn something, learn it by heart!
Thanks, Ashik for the recommendations. Yesterday, I pickup JSP Weekend Crash Course by Geremy Kawaller, William Massie, and Andrew Utter. A great book to get you started with the basics. Regards,
