Hy folks,
just came back from the SCP. Got 86%, great, isn't it?!
Well, the questions were harder than I expected. Everything started with almost 8 questions about Threads. Puh, I needed the 120 minutes.
I learned for about 3 weeks. Started with the R&H Book to warm up. After reading this I was able to understand the book of Mughal & Rassmussen. Read it twice and used it then as the major reference. Of course I went through lots of Mocks. The best starting point I found is the list on JavaRanch: Thanks a lot folks! Appreceated very much the comments.
To get answers on some questions I searched through this forum. I found Java Ranch a terribly nice place to visit, too. Gave me lots of motivation. Thanks again!
Well, I'm pondering about where to go next. I'm very interested in Web Development so guess I will go for the SCWCD.
Have a nice day everybody

Congrats, Berny. That's a great score for only three weeks of study. Did you have any prior Java programming experience?

Hi.
Congrats..Great Score.
Can u share with me your experience of giving SCJP.
I am giving the exam next month.
Actaully my concepts are not cleared and i am very weak.
I am studying through the RHE.Do u think that the book and the mocks are alone enough from the exam point's of view?..
Please let me know.I m very much tensed..

Thanks for the gratulations.
Donald. Well, I had some programming experiences. But mostly Servlets and JSP especially. So three weeks ago Java wasn't really new to me. But I was surprised how much I didn't know studying for the SCP.
Sonir. For me the RHE book was good to get an overview. Mughal & Rasmussen did a great job on their book. Expect the I/O chapter and Thread chapters, these could be done better. Anyway, I appreciate the systematic way of explaining programming Java. That helped me alot. Time ago I studied with books like Thinking in Java (Bruce Eckel) or Learning Java (O'reilly) and always had trouble to get into the matter. But the M&R book is different. - I also focused not just to pass the exam but to understand the concepts of Java, at least the ones they to ask you about in the SCP. To be honest - this way I hadn't learn by heart that much.
Well, I just used the two books and worked through the upper 50% of the Mocks suggested on the JavaRanch site. The comments there are very good. I measured my improvements with the Java Ranch Round up game (http://www.javaranch.com/roundup.jsp) - this is fun, just awesome. Whereever it was possible I printed the mocks so I could mark the questions I had problems with. I also spent around 5 markers on the books as well as on the mocks.
Hope this will help you.
Ciao
