Hi fellow ranchers!
I passed the SCJP2 certification today. A very big "thank you" to all at Java Ranch. The discussions here helped me a lot. More so as I am from a Mainframe programing background(any dinosaurs still out there??!!) and quite new to OO programing. Here is some info on how the test went and my preparation for all those who propose to take the test soon.Hope this helps.
Exam: About 13 questions on I-O+AWT+Collections. Around 7 on threads. Many questions on core Java: assignment/flow control/access modifiers/pass by ref-value.
Preparation: I used RHE as the principal source. I did not read anything from Mughal except chapter 18(available free on the net) and of course I took the KM test. Also refered "Complete Reference" by Patrick Naughton et all. The only discussion forum I participated in was Java Ranch.
Mock Tests : Here are the mock tests I took and the scores I got in them in chronological order. The score in Marcus test was the closest to the actual score
Jq+ test 1 40
Jq+ test 2 55
RHE Final 56
Jq+ test 3 70
jq+ test 4 83
jq+ test 5 55
KM 70
Marcus#1 76
jq+ test 6 73
Bill Brogden#2 71
Marcus#3 74
Tips : Study I-O and AWT well. Learn all the possible constructors for the different streams/readers/writers and the various methods of the Listener interfaces. Write lots of small programs to check concepts. Of course the fundamentals are very important(asignment/classes/modifiers/inheritence/flow control etc) and most of the questions are code based.
