I thought I was confident, but obviously I was wrong 'cos I failed it by a miserable 4%.
I suppose I rushed it and not tried the mock exam very much, but I will now. Any advice of which is the best to try?
By the way, I use the "Complete Java2 Certification study guide" book - which is brilliant, however, the IO chapter states that it is not really required for the exam, but I find that there was a few questions on it! So, for anyone thinking of going for it, read the IO chapter!
Just wanted to know if anyone has retaken their exam, does the same questions appear or is it random?
Thanks.

Dear Tweedale
Sorry to hear that you just left with at least 2 questions to go through with the exam.
But the man learn with failure! you were so near and i think that you can make it through the next time our best wishes are with you.
Questions in a exams are randomly appeared and it's hard to say that how much questions again will be appeared the next time.
But now you have the real exam experience and think it as a cost of best mock exam through which you can learn lot of things.
Make a list of all those Q's from exam as much as you remembered and try them yourself do lot of coding and clear all the concepts you loosed, by reading books, doing mocks and whatever you now better how and what to do.
And appear soon, you will go through...
I think the best mock exam is JQ+ - do it try.
If you had been with JavaRanch I am sure you would go through this time, as the ranchers here know very well through the posts here, what to expect during the exam. How much questions on thread, i/o, exceptions etc.. will come in exam and how to prepare for them. It's well known to them. You can read the previous posts here, you will know that i am not kidding.
By the way, Good luck for the next

Hi Darren,
I failed the first time as well, I got about 10 questions that were the same on the second attempt.

Darren, I agree on 'about 10 questions were the same' mentioned by Guy. I made 2 attempts, both failed with 52%, thought could do it with just the books and a little coding...
Comparing my score-reports and a few from others made me come to the conclusion there are 5 questions on java.io. If you are interested I could post the nr's of questions on all objectives..

Daren :
Do not get disheartened. Think of the exam as the most realistic mock/practice exam you can get.
Continue reading and rereading your favorite Java books. Try out small programs for every problem you encounter. Try to read the questions posted here and try to answer them yourself. Get into the habit of looking up API pages and the JLS for the common topics such as threads, strings, garbage collections, IO etc.
Don't put too much importance on seeing same questions next time. But try to recollect as many questions as you can and try to answer them yourself. You can consult the books, write a program yourself and also look up the documentation.
Hope this helps

Darren.
Dont loose faith.Shivaji, Guy, Rashid.etc. are right..Take my example, I too failed the SCJP test just 2 days back.I just got 55%..But after seeing the replies at Ranch. I feel that the guys are really caring ..and this made me a bit confident..Finally I have decided to re-appear in the this April..
I guess u are close..57%..It seems just 2 questions short..You will definetely pass out next time..
Just work Hard and Give your Best..Rest we are with you..!!!

Keep studying Darren. But I think more than mega-studying, small programs are more important. Write a lot of java code, just a little bit each day. Over time, you will learn and understand much more than if you try to cram everything into a short period. You can't hope to pass this test without some real actual programming experience.

I have seen so many people who failed for the first time and manage to get good score in the second attempt, so dont worry.
Good Luck
