Took the exam yesterday and passed with 84%. Thanks to all for sharing your insights and experiences on these boards. Very helpful!
I supposed I could have hammered Threads and I/O for another week and maybe broken 90, but the time felt right. I felt I was in danger of pulling a Milhouse with any additional studying.
"This is great! Not only am I NOT learning, but I'm forgetting stuff I used to know!"
There was nothing unusual in my study method but for the record here goes. RHE and ExamCram, I find these two complimented each other nicely. All the free mocks I could find. The usefulness of these vary widely.
I won't cheer and jeer specific mocks here, because, honestly, they're all a big blur now. Suffice it to say, if you're asked about some crazy code that no programmer in their right mind would ever type, it's probably not useful. Might be fun for trivia buffs, but probably not needed to pass the exam. This is especially true concerning == and equals(). Understand the basic difference of these and IMHO that's enough.
Instead of taking every mock out there, I'd recommend picking a few of the best, and taking them over and over, leaving a week or so in between to forget the specific question while remembering the concepts. Also, if you're like me, fight the tempation to move on to the next mock before really understanding every question you got wrong in the last one.
Finally, at the risk of seeming petty, I have to gripe about the percentage flooring/truncating. My actual percentage is 84.745763%. That this earns me a 84% not a 85% seems less than fair and accurate. I wonder if anyone else is annoyed by this.
But that is really a very small flaw on an otherwise fun and (let's hope) enriching experience made all the better by you fine folks here at the ranch. Thanks again.
Best,
