Thanks for all the contributions made through the javaranch dicussion boards which helped me a lot!
I have about a year experience with java, so I thought I would have passed the exam on the first try but I still failed by a miserable 4%! I think the reason why I had failed is because I use JBuilder to program java and it automated a lot of the coding for you and thus not really gaining any knowledge of how it really works.
If anyone is thinking of trying to go for the exam, I would advise first try to do the coding in a plain-vanilla text editor and learn from that experience if not already doing so. I did!
I use two books to help me. An "exam cram for java 2" book is very good to refresh your knowledge just before the exam (its lighter to carry too!), but it lacks a little on threads I believe. The other book is "Complete Java2 Certification - study guide" which I belive is a very good book - not only used for the programmer exam, but is used for the developers exam, so if anyone is thinking of taking the developers exam after, then this book would be ideal!
I also used JQ++ mock exam, which I think is brilliant, it is very cheap ($20) and has about 700 questions in all ranging from "easy" to "real brainer". Alright there is some few "mistakes" with some of the questions, but a lot can be learned from it, especially the comments from each of the questions after test. Lots of predefined test, random as well as ability to customize the test to focus more on a particular subject that you may be weak on.
Anyway, thanks once again for all the help in the discussion board. Now it is time for the developers exam!

I am about to re-take my exam after a very similar experience. I am also using the Exam Cram, JQ+ and the Syngress book, so I was wondering what kind of scores you were getting on the mock exams just before you tested...I am getting 65-80% (also weak on sync'd threads)...do you think I would pass?
BTW, congrats!
