Some stats here:
http://www.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=24&t=014690
But this shows just people who posted their results at Javaranch since the beginning. Nothing official. It does show, though, that a majority of people passed

Really? Hmm, if we are guessing wildly then I will guess 42, because that answer is never wrong

Have you ever considered how many programmers there are in the world? I don't know the answer, but i would sure want to find out.
For the sake of argument if there are 1Million programmers, then that would mean the 11k scjp's would constitute 1% or 1 out of every 100.
For the sake of argument let us say 20% are employed and 80% are unemployed. That would mean there are 200k employed java programmers. In relation to 11,000 scjp's assuming all are employed that would mean: 5% of the employed java population are sun certified programmers.
But of course all of the above is mere speculation. I have nothing much to do on a sunday.
Good luck in your quest for the developers exam.
