Hi everybody,
would just like to thank everybody here at JavaRanch for sharing their experiences and knowledge. Very helpful, thanks!
I did the Programmer Certification test yesterday and I was fortunate enough to pass with 96%
Unlike some other posting here I didn't find the actual test to be very different from the example questions available at Sun Education site or from the JQ+ software. There might have been a few more questions without any code snippets than I had expected but otherwise I'd say JQ+ is pretty similar.
This is what I did for preparation. (I have been using Java since 97)
Started out with "A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification" by Mughal, Rasmussen
Bought the JQ+ softwarre and did all the standard tests as well as 2 random tests
Based on the result of the test I used Velmurugans study notes and the book to get it right.
Checking out
Fortunately I had the time (i.e. no project currently) to spend on this. It took me about a 10 days to do the preparation.
cheers,
Johan

Could you share us some tips?... like what area do we have to concentrate on studying...
did you encounter many questions on IO and threads?

I guess everybody has a different story. My test included less question on IO and AWT than I had expected.
The key to success (IMHO) is understanding the basics, i.e.
Declarations and access control
Language Fundamentals
Operators and Assignments
Overloading, Overiding, Runtime Type
You should pick up the rest when writing programs yourself.
Yes, there were questions on Threads and IO but compared to the above sections there were less questions on those subjects. I believe the JQ+ software fairly accurately shows you the mix of questions (there is a trial version if you don't want to buy it)
Best of luck,
Johan
