Finally passed SCJP this afternoon, 63% (Sun says 62% but 37/59 makes 63% to me!)
First encounter with Java (or any full blown language at all) was September last year but had to do some other exams (basic EJB, CORBA, JDBC OOA&D) in the mean while. The real focus on Java was for the last 2 months. (note: since I discovered JR!)
Now comes pay back time (this all got me a job!) and (most important!) the opportunity to really learn Java. I know this might not be the prescribed road according to some around here but financial reasons forced me to do it this way. The cert doesn't make you get rid off me!
Thanks JR and all who make it a very valuable resource!

Congratulations Erik!
By the way, if your middle name is "the", you'd have a really killer Viking name!

Hi Eric,
I know people who have had to take it several times before passing. It is atough test so any pass is something to be proud of.

Eric, Congrats:
BTW, you are lucky enough to find a java job! Would you just tell me in which city you are living? I will take the test tomorrow and I am sure I can pass it with a decent score. Plus I have 2 year experience with Java. So maybe I can land a job in your backyard...

Hi Holmes,
There's quit a bit of JAVA work available in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in telecom and defence industries especially around Plano. If you can handle the occasional "Red-neck" ignorance, Texas is a gret place to live.
