Just came back from SCJP, passed with 89%. The exam was EASY, mock exams are definitely harder. Here are some of my scores, for those "unsure" if they are ready and for "naysayers" who blow this EASY exam out of proportion. Scores are in chronological order.
Marcus Green 2 (took this one first): 55%
Marcus Green 1: 60%
Marcus Green 3: 66%
JQ+ (first try): 48%
JQ+ (second try): 60%
---------------------------
Test at job interview: 75%
---------------------------
SCJP exam: 89%
Two pieces of advice for people who study.
1. You should see an improvement in your mock test scores over time.
2. if you can consistently get 60%, you are ready. 80% number that some people advocate here is OVERINFLATED. The exam is a lot easier then mock tests, even because it tells you how many right/wrong answers you need.
I had at least 6 questions on overriding and overloading, 4-5 on arithmetics and loops, 2-3 on String immutability, 5-6 on threads, maybe 2-3 on AWT, and 2-3 on io.
Thanks to everyone on JavaRanch for your help!

Have you had any prior Java Experience. Thats why people are told here 80% i think.
Because just in case they have no work or "real world" experience with Java(like me :-p), they should be able to pass with 80% average.

Well, as a matter of fact I did, but not with "pure" Java. I worked with JSP, Servlets, and used a tool called SilverStream. Alltogether, I had very narrow focus in these technologies, although about 1.5 years of experience (that includes writing specs for projects, HTML code, debugging, server installation, database work, etc., so as you can imagine not too much of real Java).
The fact that I previously worked with 10-15 different tools and "technologies" helped a little, as well as math background. You might be right, for people coming from a school bench it might not be entirely appropriate to be satisfied with 60%, but for experienced programmers it should sufficient.
Thanks everyone. Hope Sun will rise again (it's kinda tough when your server market just got killed and 5 of your top executives are leaving....)
Cheers

It wasn't my idea to go to some crazy nightclub in the middle of nowhere. I just wanted to stay home and cuddle with this tiny ad:
