Well I passed the SCJP, now I'm wondering, should I go for SCWCD or should I wait for a while till the new objectives come out, I mean 2 month ago I would have taken the SCJP 1.2 but waiting got me the SCJP 1.4 and I didn't need to upgrade. Will there be a lot of difference in the objectives? or actually there won't be any change soon?
One more question, for those of you that has experience in the EU market, is Java/JSP/JBeans tech. owning the market in Europe still? or are they merging to the .NET? Any ideas?
Ok few more question, and please execuse my ignorance:
1- Are JBeans something like MS COM or DCOM objects? or has it some different concept?
2- Can you make Custom server side tags with Java tech.?
3- Can you develop XML web services with Java? I think you can but IS THIS covered at all in the SCWCD study?? If not where is it covered?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Please Moderators, move this to SCWCD or any other forum that you see more appropriate.

In Germany / Austria / Swiss:
.NET is coming, but really slow at the moment. The vast majority of projects focus on java and c++. A good knowledge of the major database systems, especially ORACLE is very important.

If you're talking about java beans (not EJB):
java beans can either works as a data container or as a component in a software development ide. They much "lighter" than COM objects.
>> 2- Can you make Custom server side tags

There's no better way than to make those with java :-) Very easy and powerful ... If you make the SCWCD, you learn more about this. Have a look at the manning book (www.manning.com) about this stuff. It's very good for test preparation.
>> Can you develop XML web services with Java?
Sure. There is a third-party-library called GLUE with automatically generates web services for given classes and methods. Future java version may include this technology too. This stuff is NOT part of the SCWCD certification (at the moment)
Have fun with Java

Hi,
Is there going to be a new objective for SCWCD ? Is there any more detail available on that ? I have started preparing for this so any help in this matter will be highly appreciated.
Also by the manning book, do you mean Hanumant Deshmukh and Malavia's book, OR the book called "Web Development with JavaServer Pages". Both these books are from manning publications, so I am little confused.
Thanks

Danke Sch´┐Żn Sebastian
Actually de, at & ch are the markets I was specificaly asking about. I also heard SuSe linux distribution is growing so fast and this is slimming that chance on the .NET to spread while widening the chance for Java to continue. Still, I saw many big companies merging to PCs with MS windows and giving up on Solaris Monsters
So Sebastian, any idea when is the objectives of the SCWCD due to be changed??
Do you think I should go for SCWCD first or should I do some Oracle? I have good experience with MS SQL 2000... OR should I go for XML first and wait till the new SCWCD objectives come out?

I don't believe that (in D/A/CH). SUSE is the strongest linux distribution here in Germany, but the people who use it, don't replace windows with suse, but they use suse instead of red hat. I'm really not a Microsoft friend and I would to see the importance of linux grow, but at the moment it would be perfect to know both platforms, because nobody has won this war yet and there are some companies how will always use microsoft products, regardless how buggy they are.

Sorry, I've no informations about that.

Hmm, difficult. The SCWCD is one exam (which is really easy if you have some experience with servlets and jsp), the oracle OCP (developer certifiation) are four exams. If you havent started with oracle exams yet, you MUST visit an oracle courses (online or instructor), which costs at least $1000. So if you need another certification SCWCD is much easier to achieve. On the other hand it's important (in my opinion) to be qualified both development AND databases ....

Sebastian, you gave very good tips. I'm certified MS SQL server, which has an engine getting close to be as good as Oracle - MS recruited the guys at Oracle imagine or at least these are the rumors here - , it has much more market share than Oracle here as well. I checked Oracel's web site and their tracks are too long and time/money consuming.
So I guess, it will be SCWCD.. not sure yet but will be soon.

Dan, thanks for the congrat, was specificaly waiting for this one as well
