Here is an outline of my preparation:
1) Read Mughal/Rasmussen's book (chapters 2-11) thoroughly, highlighting important/unintuitive concepts and doing all the excercises.
2) Went back through the book and summarized important material in my own words. (This got old fast and I only made it through Chapter 8)
3) Took Dan Chisholm's study guide format exam. I did not simulate exam conditions in this effort. Rather, I used these exams as a learning tool. (Averaged 75-80%)
4) Begged my wife for a little more time to study as she was ordering me to take the
SCJP exam immediately.
5) Took Marcus Green's exam and scored 96%.
6) Read Sun's paper on assertions. This is all you need.
7) Got put in the doghouse by my wife when I told her I'll take the exam in a month or two.
8) Memorized
Thread constructors & methods, java.lang.* wrapper constructors & methods indicated in the objectives and collections framework interface/class hierarchy & behavior.
9) Scheduled and took the exam in two days.
10) Currently on work-release from doghouse.
Peace to my homeboyz Chisholm, Green, Mughal, Rasmussen and my peeps at
Java Ranch for their bling-blingin' prep jonx. Thanks to my wife for layin' the smack-down.
