Hi Everybody,
I have passed SCWCD securing 89% . I answered 53 out of 59 questions correctly. I missed two questions in design patterns, one in using custom tags, one in using java beans, one in session management, and one in servlet model.
Overall the exam is easier as compared with SCJP 1.4. One should have at least some experience to pass this exam.
I would like to thank JavaRanch for providing such a useful platform to programmers. I am thankful to one of my best friends, Mr. Iftikhar Arain, for all the support he provided to me to prepare for this exam. Without his support, I would not have achieved such a good score.Thanks Iftikhar .
Now coming to some advice:
- Do study other design patterns like Front Component, Bimodal Data Access and Entity Session Facade besides the 4 mentioned in the objectives.
- Do memorise the return values from doStartTag, doAfterBody and doEndTag.
- Do remember which methods are provided by ServletRequest and which by HttpServletRequest.
- Do remember which methods are provided by ServletResponse and which by HttpServletResponse.
- Do look for the difference between relative path and non-relative path. Some methods accept former while others accept later.
- Difference between ServletContext.getResource() and ServletContext.getResourceAsStream()
- Different return types of HttpServletRequest.getUserPrincipal() in different scenarios.
- Difference between ServletContext.getRequestDispatcher() and ServletRequest.getRequestDispatcher()
- Look for implications of different patterns written in the <url-pattern></url-pattern> tag in <servlet-mapping> e.g.,
<servlet-mapping>
<url-pattern>*.jpeg</url-pattern>
<url-pattern>/hello/</url-pattern>
<url-pattern>/hello</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
- Look for info for configuring different listeners in web.xml?
- Try to look for circumstances, in which the session is invalidated or expired.
- Different situations in which on a given JSP page some JSP implicit variables are available while others are not.
- SCWCD Study Kit, JWeb Plus and Miftah Khan's notes are excellent resources to start with.

- and lastly web.xml is very important. Do have a look at some sample web.xml files in the SCWCD preparation books. Good Luck !
Thats all
Regards

Thanks everybody
Well Sanjay, I am not sure right now what to do next. I have four options available to me.
1- SCEA (which is quite expensive )
2- SCJD (but I have experience, so I think I can skip it)
3- IBM XML Certification
and
4- IBM UML Certification
I have knowledge of both XML and UML but for certification purposes, I will have to study much more to cope up with the exam objectives.
I would be happy if an experienced person can guide me regarding my plans. I want to excel in web based systems.
Regards
