Although it's not a great result, I'll post it here because I want to express my appreciation for this forum. I haven't posted any questions, but past SCJD questions and answers did help me. Thanks.
General Considerations: 54/58
Documentation: 20/20
GUI: 12/24
Server: 48/53
Score: 134/155
- RMI: life's too short for sockets :-)
- Modified Data class for criteriaFind(). Simple linear search.
- Encapsulated Data class for lock() and unlock() implementation in network mode. lock()/unlock() in Data class only checked integrity etc.
- Lockmanager with lock objects for each row and one for the database. Later found a small hole (almost pathological), which should have been synchronised.
- Implemented clientIds (long: System.currentTimeMillis), which were only used in networked mode.
- Networked mode determined through startup parameters and not chosen in the GUI.
- Used 1.4 for logging and misc.
- No online help.
- No menu bar and no file menu.
- No "When you pressed the Exit button, did you really, really mean that?" dialog.
I'm a bit surprised that the deductions fell heavily on the GUI. It was quite elaborate with MVC pattern, dedicated tablemodel, editable src/dest combos, GridBagLayout, actions, shortcuts etc. The deduction was probably due to no menu bar and no quit dialog.
The forums here confirmed my findings about the clientID issue for RMI being the biggest issue to decide and explain.
I bought Habbibi et al's book late in the process, but only found a few things I hadn't thought about. It's really great. However, my score do seem to indicate that I perhaps ahould have given it more attention :-)
I had to take the essay a couple of months after the submission (due to death in the closest family). It's not a big deal to read up on the stuff you've made, but I would definitely recommend everyone to take the essay as soon as possible.
I'll go on to the SCJEA, but the kids need attention, house hall painting etc, etc.
Yours,
- Bo Thomsen
