After passing the SCJP 1.4 exam this morning with 91%, I just thought I'd tell some people that are thinking about taking it about my experience.
I used the book "A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification" by Mughal and Rasmussen. I basically read through all of the neccessary chapters, made notes and then did tons of practice exams, practically all of the ones from the JavaRanch mock exam list. Total time spent preparing was 3 weeks after not working in Java for almost 2 years.
Best Mock Exam? I really liked Mughal and Rasmussens exam as it was very close to the real thing. Questions with multiple answers told how many were needed - just like the Sun engine. It was also the only mock exam that I found to have only objectives from the new 1.4 exam.
Other exams that I found useful were Marcus Green's and the Jxam engine.
As far as I'm concerned, it is not neccessary to spend big $$$$ on mock exams as the free ones are mostly excellent.
Thanks to everyone that's involved with JavaRanch especially to those that spend time creating those mock exams!!
Cheers
