I took my SCEA Part 1 test on last Friday and got a nice 95% score.
There were a lot of scenario based questions in there. Most have a huge text portion (about 8-10 lines), so sometimes I needed to read them two or three times to understand. About 10 questions had "exhibits" with UML diagrams.
Before going to the exam, I read a lot in this newsgroup and want to say many thanks to all of you! The discussions and resources are excellent and helped me prepare the right topics.
Best regards, Theo

Congratulations. It is a very high score. I am a bit concerned about 10 questions with exhibit of UML diagrams. Which subjects do those UML exhibit cover? UML and design patterns questions? or they cover other subjects?

Hi Heinrichs
Congrats for your excellent score. You did really well. Any suggestions or tips regarding exam ? I am thinking of taking Part 1 exam in 3 months time, i have one year j2ee experience. Would my preparation be sufficient? Pl. suggest.
Regards
Durvasula

Jen: No, the exhibits did not show UML diagrams for patterns. Just basic questions about UML diagram types, or deplyment diagrams to illustrate questions.
Durvasula: Yes, sounds like you can do it. I had no practical J2EE experence before. However, I read most of the Monson-Haefel book (new edition), a few tutorials on the topic, and of course all the part 1 prep notes. I played a bit with the SUN J2EE tutorial example.
Regards, Theo

Which Monson-Haefel book are you talking about? The EJB book or the JMS book?

Ricardo,
(sorry for late answer) I got the EJB 2.0 book from Monson-Haefel. This is the third edition.
I first thought about getting the second edition, but the new one explains the differences of EJB 2.0 to the older EJB versions, so it is pretty usable for the exam.

Siddharth,
you may have a look to the following resources:
- Fowler, UML distilled (short and compact)
- Monson-Haefel, EJB (either the 2. or 3. edition will do)
- Cade, SCEA Study Guide, SUN Press (to control your knowledge)
- of course this site
- follow the links in the "scealinks.jsp" page
- look at the various SCEA notes, they are invaluable
Good luck and regards, Theo

What is Monson-Haefel book ?
What is the evaluation of this book for the purpose of taking SCEA?
What are the best books for SCEA besides those SCEA link provides.
thank you!

Congratulations....
I was just wondering before going through this exam, if this certification with such a good score made any difference in your job prospects, if yes then what and how.
Did you really benefit from this?
thanks a lot for sharing this valuable experience with all of us in advance.
