Hi!!!
I managed to pass SCJP2 1.2 cert exam (91% - 5 questions with wrong answers) ;-)
1. I used RHE and KM (but only IO chapter) books.
2. I used JQ+ and Whizlabs test simulators.
I found that Qs in above test simulators are more difficult then the real ones. I usually received 75%-80% in my mock exams.
3. I also read as many study notes as I could.
4. It was my first cert exam, so I was a little nervous. But when the exam started I was too busy to think about it;-)
I finished it in 1.5 hour and then I took a break for 1-2 minutes (I was walking around the room). And then I went through all my answers again.
I found during my mock exams that I something choose the wrong answer although I know the correct one (I just press the wrong option).
5. If you have a piece of code in your question, then look at its answers first. If there is an option like that: "it doesn't compile", then try to check it. You can save a lot of time doing this, cos you don't have to analize all the code to find out at the end that it doesn't compile.
After a few mock exams I was able to decide in 2-3 seconds if the code, I was looking at, compiles or not.
6. I strongly recommend you to do all three Marcus Green's mock exams from www.jchq.net .
I've done them and I thought that they were to easy cos I received the score at the level ~90%. Too many according to my scores in JQ+ and Whizlabs.
But after the exam I have to say that Marcus's mock exams are really very similar to the real one.
7. Try to write as many your own examples of code as you can. If you don't understand anything you read, then try it, write a simple class to test it.
Write such classes for APIs of String, StringBuffer, Collection(s), etc. It's the best way to learn them.
8.And never forget small hints/traps you can find at JavaRanch (there were a few threads about it). Here are several examples:
- private modifier at the front of the class
- signature of the main function:
public static void main(String s[]) (learn this by heart!!!)
- the only function in Runnable interface:
public void run() (learn this by heart!!!)
- and many othes.
As I said before, it must be your standard procedure to check them (at least some of them)
at the begining of an every new question.
Good luck!!!
