I sat for the exam today and got 43/48 which is 89%. The breakdown was as follows:
Concepts 100%
Common Architectures 83%
Legacy Connectivity 60%
EJB 100%
EJB container Model 100%
Protocols 66%
Applicability of J2EE 100%
Design Patterns 100%
Messaging 100%
Internationalization 100%
Security 50%
I have been preparing for this exam for some time (off and on) but really hardcore for just the past few weeks. I have been working with J2EE since 2000 and Java since 1996.
The materials I used in preparing for the exam were:
Enterprise JavaBeans by Richard Monson-Haefel
Design Patterns by GoF
Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Study Guide by Cade/Roberts
Many notes taken by others (Wetherbie, Ho, Broecker, et. al.)
This site (thank you!)
Many free mock tests
A comment on the mock tests. I took quite a few and I could never get over 60% on any of them. What they did do was help me understand my weak points. When I missed a question on a mock exam, I would research the question and really try to understand why I got it wrong.
Cheers!

Fantastic Jack. Great Score.
I'm only at the beginning of my Java Certification walk, currently studying for SCJP. Do you have any words advice for aspiring architects ?

Thanks for all of your responses.
Rory, my advice for you is to just do it. It has taken me some time to get to this point, but slow and steady will always win the race. I almost gave up on this last one, as I thought I was not prepared (the mock exams made me feel that way). But I just buckled down and really tried to learn the material, which in my opinion is really the reason for going after these certifications. Anything else they get you is just gravy.
50% on security, not very secure is it! I only remember two questions about security, so I must have blown one of them.

This is very true. It doesn't hurt in job interviews either. Last week I went through a wringer of a technical interview and definately held my own. The interviewer smiled when we finished.

Hey,
Congratulations! And I experienced the same thing with the mock exams -- even though it was hard to pass any of them the actual exam was fairly straightforward in my books. The mock exams seemed to talk about issues that seemed out-dated somehow. Oh well, that's my take.
Cheers and congratulations,
Darryl

Hi ,
I have just entered into this forum.
Congratulations on passing the SCEA test with good score Jack!
I recently passed the 'IBM Test 486, OOAD with UML' and is planning to go for SCEA (part 1).
Would you please let me know what are all the mock tests you have taken while preparing for SCEA?
Thanks Much.
