Hi all
Passed the SCWCD exam on tuesday with 98%. Here are some observations:
- The SCWCD examination is definitely a bit easier than the SCJP one
- The real exam is easier than the JWeb+ mock exams
- You probably should be scoring 24 or 25 out of 25 on JavaRanch's mock exam before you take the real thing
- Study materials that I used were the Manning book (I read this cover to cover in detail and speed read when it came time to cram), dipped into the Wrox book for chapter summaries, the Servlet & JSP API documentation and JWeb+. If you have some additional servlet & JSP books, these will come in handy for reading a different explanation of any given topic - I used Marty Hall's 'More Servlets & JSPs' for this purpose. But you will be able to pass wth a decent mark just by using Manning, JWeb+ and the API docs.
- The subject material seems to require more memory work and less conceptual learning/understanding than SCJP, e.g. remembering exact method signatures, remembering the exact name of a given element in the deployment descriptor, etc. Not sure how I feel about that, since these are the types of things you would consult a book or other documentation for during your normal daily programming.
- The design patterns questions are much easier than you might expect, so don't worry unduly about them
Hope these thoughts are of some use to SCWCD aspirants out there.

I had similar observations about the exam, which I also passed this week.
Congratulations...

Congratulations Michael,
And thanks for your notes on the exam. I just forced myself out of the SCWCD forum for a bit to look for exactly this type of information in Results forum. As I've read the Deshmukh book, which I like more the more I read it, I realize that there just doesn't seem to be that much theory in SCWCD. In fact it was one of my early complaints about the book compared to the Mughal book for SJCP. But I'm coming to the conclusion that there is just a whole lot more theory in understanding the java programming language than there is in learning jsp and servlets. So, much to my chagrin, I fear I'm going to have to do a whole lot more of that memorization that you mentioned.
Ken
P.S. Not to say that the memorization is not useful or necessary. It's just not all that interesting.
